Linda Lowe Erley is the debut author of Rainbow Over the Bayou, Jim Crow through the eyes of a white girl. It is a historical fiction inspired by her life being raised by a black housekeeper during the 1950’s and 60’s in Southern Louisiana.
Married 41 years they have three grown sons, three beautiful daughters-in-law and seven precious grandchildren who are the joys of their life.
Over the years, Linda has led numerous bible studies and hosted retreats. She draws upon her deep personal faith to shed greater insight to her “second mother’s” struggles and inequities as well as the redemptive grace, hope and love of God.
Linda loves rich family time, the adventures of travel, sitting down to a plate of red beans and rice with skillet cornbread and savoring a cup of coffee with friends. She, her "Yankee husband," and retired therapy dog Matilda now reside in Colorado.
Jim Crow through the eyes of a white girl
This historical fiction, Rainbow Over the Bayou, Jim Crow through the Eyes of a White Girl, will transport you deep into southern Louisiana as the story moves between dual timelines of 1960 and present day.
On this literary journey, you will find yourself being thrust into the dehumanizing marginalization of Jim Crow laws, yet will also experience the power of human resilience. The story line weaves in actual historic events in the Civil Rights struggle.
Amidst this horrific time in a nation’s history filled with discrimination and racial injustice, God’s hand allowed two opposite worlds to collide - Mimi, a young white girl and Willa Mae, a negro maid who worked for her family.
Through the innocent eyes of this little girl, now an adult, there was so much she saw, yet did not see… so much she experienced but did not understand.
Through it all, God’s love, light, redemption and promise of hope can still be found.
